Today on the show we’re talking about the upcoming Leo New Moon on July 28. Before we get into the astrological update, I want to remind you that astrology is not a tool to predict the future, rather it’s a tool that is designed to help us get back in touch with ourselves. The reason that astrology can’t be used to predict the future? There’s a few – one of the biggest is that we have free will.
Even though we have free will, our natal chart, our astrology is not designed or created based on us playing small or living in a state of fear. Our birth chart then is a sort of snapshot of our highest selves – what is possible for us if we fully surrender and trust in the universe. I’ve found truthfully that my natal chart has the answers I’m looking for, it’s my guide, my map back home to myself. And that same map and these answers are available to you as well.
Especially if you are a survivor of trauma, childhood trauma, we are likely to reject and distrust ourselves immensely. I’ve found astrology to be a way I can validate emotions and feelings internally and find my way back home to myself, especially when my external world feels chaotic and turbulent.
For example, I found in my natal chart that the relationship between myself and my mom, the relationship between myself and my father, and my siblings too, are under tremendous amounts of energetic challenges. So much so that my chart interpretation could lead one to conclude that it’s better for me to cut my losses with my family of origin and work on healing those wounds than it is to try and make it work because those relationship challenges, it’s in the energy, it’s in my chart that I’m not supposed to have a lovey-dovey easy relationship with my family of origin, especially my mother and father. It’s actually my greatest wound – my early family life.
And if you know my story, my experience with narcissistic abuse, being the scapegoat, blacksheep of my family of origin, that I’ve gone no contact, it may not surprise you that my chart offered me a sort of validation that going no contact didn’t make me a bad person, a villain. Rather, it gave me permission to trust that I was on the right path for me – at least in this lifetime. And that if I wanted to fulfill my purpose on Earth, if I wanted to fully elevate and become the highest version of Katie possible, then I had to make choices that align with me – not necessarily do what’s best for my ego or for someone else’s ego.
Speaking of the ego, the energy that we are about to move through, or the energy that we’re already in, depending on when you’re listening to this episode, is hot. I do want to validate that for you and I will explain a little bit about why everything feels so explosive. But first let’s talk about this Leo New Moon happening at the end of July.
On July 28, 2022, we will have a New Moon in the astrological sign of Leo.
The New Moon will occur at 10:54 AM Pacific on July 28, with the moon at 5 degrees and 28 minutes of Leo.
Remember a New Moon is a time in which the Moon and Sun are conjunct in the same sign. So both the Moon and Sun are in Leo on July 28, they will be exactly at 5 degrees Leo – both the sun and moon – at 10:54 AM.
A new moon represents the very beginning of a cycle, it’s when we are planting seeds for what we want more of, what we want to cultivate, grow, invite into our life. take for example gardening, the new moon phase would be when the seeds are planted in the ground; so we don’t necessarily . There’s a lot of work, energy, momentum still underground, hidden from our view, but we trust that the seeds that we plant will come to fruition.
So a new moon is a time to make your mark on the world. It’s time to be a little more self centered and determine what you want to accomplish and then start taking small steps toward that goal.
During a new moon, the moon will have a particular flavoring or energy depending on what season we are in astrologically. And we can use that zodiac flavoring to help us create goals, ideas, to make progress on areas of our life that are most supported by that current energy.
With this New moon on July 28, we are experiencing a new moon in the sign of Leo.
Leos are represented by the lion, they are ruled by the sun, they are fiery passionate individuals who love to party and have a good time, to be around other people and celebrate life and just how awesome it is to be alive, but Leos are also likely to express themselves in dramatic, creative and assertive ways.
As a fire sign, Leos have a lot of energy and passion, they are initiators, they bring people together by creating, having fun, enjoying themselves. THey are natural leaders who do possess a lot of integrity and determination. But Leos also can be a little self-indulgent, come off a little cocky, that’s just how confident they are in themselves. Leos can be quite determined and usually get their way when they really want to.
Leo energy is very proud or prideful. So a challenge for anyone with strong Leo placements, if you are a Leo sun or Leo rising, is likely to temper any tendency for arrogant or egotistical behavior and to instead develop humility and compassion; to learn detachment in the gift of their affections, so that they radiate their abundant energy freely and enhance the life experience of others around them.
When the sun and moon are both in Leo, it’s usually a sign of Love. Leo rules the heart so this is a time to bring out your heart energy, to focus on what opens your heart. Leo is also the natural ruler of the Fifth House, the fifth house is all about creativity, self-expression, children, romance, and affection.
Jupiter is in Aries at this time, and the way it’s aspecting the sun and moon is magnifying these themes of love and romance, joy, and passion.
Although there’s a lot of love energy flowing, this may be more about self love, showing kindness and love to ourselves more than it is about showing love to another person. And that’s because Jupiter in Aries is all about independence, doing things yourself, not relying on others.
How many times have you found yourself in a situation where you were like fuck I don’t know how to assemble this desk chair or fix this leaky faucet or make this dish or do this task? And how many times have you just blown yourself away in amazement by finishing, completing the thing that you originally didn’t know how to do?
We often have so many internal strengths and abilities we know nothing about until we are forced to explore that internal resource. And that’s what this energy is inviting us to do on a collective scale. To explore, dig deep, to keep going in the face of adversity and really learn our true power.
So a journal prompt or something to consider around this Leo New Moon: where are you most motivated to bring out your independent streak?
Given that Leo is a fixed sign, if you have any natal planets, aspects or angles around 5 degrees of fixed signs – Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio, you are likely to feel the energy of this Leo New Moon the most.
There’s actually a lot of activity, lots of planets in fixed signs – saturn, uranus, mars, sun, moon, mercury, north node, south node – all in fixed signs, so we have what’s called a Fixed Grand Cross. This essentially means the energy is potent when it comes to willpower for our beliefs, unity consciousness.
The way that Saturn is opposing mercury and squaring the triple conjunction gives us a hint that a lot of truth is coming to light, shocking truths, shocking insights; and these revelations will be happening quickly. They could appear on the news, or it could be brilliant ideas coming to you like a download.

So with Leo being very linked to the heart, this energy is inviting us to stay in love, to stay in our heart space. The heart is an incredibly powerful organ. Did you know the electromagnetic field of the heart is 5000 times stronger than that of the brain? And the heart contains something like 40,000 brain neurons, so in a way, our heart is our big brain and our brain is our little brain. Our heart is where we have an emotional – love-based intelligence rather than just a rational intelligence.
So this Leo New Moon is an energy that is inviting us to drop more into our heart. To step into feelings of love, joy, gratitude, peace, and freedom.
Breathing breathwork will be huge at this time – taking deep breaths in and out of your heart space will feel really helpful and relaxing. Some powerful affirmations at this time are also related to sovereignty and self love. I Am, I exist and I will let my light shine.
Remember, with Jupiter in Aries, Aries is that power warrior energy, this is not victim energy. This is warrior for love energy. Love revolution energy. So breathwork, making sure you take care of yourself, drinking lots and lots of water will be key.
I want to also call your attention to an astrological event happening a few days after the Leo New Moon – a rare triple conjunction in Taurus with Mars, Uranus, and the North Node all in Taurus. The exact triple conjunction will occur on July 31, Aug. 1 depending on where you are in the world.
But I want to flag this for you because this energy is hot. Intense. Explosive. It’s a once in a lifetime event. The last time this triple conjunction in Taurus occurred was around 324 BC, around the time of Alexander the Great, so like some ~2500 years ago.
Whatever happens around this time, whatever gets triggered by this triple conjunction is likely to have energetic ripple effects for decades if not centuries.
So what do we know about this triple conjunction energy? What can we expect?
Well, it’s likely going to feel like we are swimming or whitewater rafting in the rapids and there may be turbulence – feelings of chaos for a few months – at least until October, if not into 2023 because in October we’re going to have another round of eclipse season.
As I said, it’s rare to have mars, uranus and the north node in one particular sign – it’s a very electric charge, explosive combination. It’s a clash of archetypes: control vs freedom. The past vs the future.
Taurus is about the body, the earth, food, safety, security, the economy. And for the first time in our lives, Uranus, which has an 84 year cycle, is moving to 18 degrees of Taurus.
So where do you have 18 degrees of Taurus in your chart? Which house is activated? This will give you an idea as to which area of your life radical change is most likely to occur.
Also look for planets and angles around 17-19 degrees of Fixed signs, Taurus is a fixed sign, so Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, and Aquarius.
I’m not saying this to scare you – I’m just telling you from my own life experience and from studying the energy, that this is the kind of energy where if you don’t make the change yourself – the energy will do it for you. And if the energy makes these decisions, these moves for you, I guarantee it will feel much more uncomfortable than if you had just made that change yourself.
So look at your natal chart – figure out which house is activated by 18 degrees of Taurus, where do you have 17-19 degrees of taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius? Which houses are activated? Which planets are activated? If you are not sure, you can get a report at elevatedaura.com
So back on July 5, Mars entered the sign of Taurus, while Jupiter is in Aries. Jupiter does what Mars says because when it’s in Aries, Jupiter is in Mars’s hometurf. So Jupiter expands what Mars wants – material and financial stability, security, money, food, but the thing is Mars does not like to be in Taurus because Taurus is Venus’s hometurf. So Mars feels a little bit debilitated by the Goddess of Love. Instead of taking action, warrior energy in Taurus mars ends up digging its heels in the sand, holding on to anger, fighting by not moving.
Taurus as a fixed sign wants things to stay the same. I like things the way they are. But Mars is like no let’s go, time for change. So Mars will be in Taurus until August 20. So you may find disagreements seem to happen more routinely until around August 20.
As I mentioned during the Capricorn Full Moon earlier this month, There’s a Saturn Pluto conjunction we’ve just experienced that was identical to what it looked like in January 2020 before the lockdowns and heavy rules and regulations became the norm. The Goddess Dwarf planet Ceres was sandwiched in between the two and during the Leo New Moon, Ceres will be at 2 degrees of Leo.
As the Goddess of Harvest and Corns, agriculture, Ceres being conjunct with the sun and the moon may indicate ongoing issues with the food supply are likely to continue. And as we actually look ahead, food shortages and food disruptions are likely through 2026, as Uranus is all about disruptions and Uranus will be in Taurus until 2026. So we’re about halfway through that cycle of food supply issues – have about 3.5 years to go as Uranus came into Taurus in 2018.
So Mars and Taurus are not the best of friends. Taurus also doesn’t particularly get along with Uranus either because Taurus loves security, safety, and Uranus is all about evolution and revolution. Uranus is a signal that we have outgrown something and something new is trying to emerge for our own evolution, which can be a higher state of consciousness, a higher state of being, usually involving galactic information, shocking revelations. And Taurus is a fixed sign. Fixed signs do not like change – they like the familiar.
Uranus is all about unexpected revolutions. That line from Jurassic Park feels really appropriate right now: Hold on to your butts. So there could be unexpected revolutionary moves with this triple conjunction, violent protests related to the economy possibly following a violent shake up of the economy, financial systems or the food chain. So if you do end up going to a protest in the next few weeks or months, take several precautions.
Uranus is also about galactic information.
I think the galactic consciousness part of this energy is very interesting because we also have Charikko at 6 degrees, 28 minutes of Aquarius, opposing the Leo sun and Moon,
Charikko was the wife of Chiron, Chiron is the wounded healer – in your natal chart, Chiron represents your biggest wound. So Charikko was the wife of Chiron and she would help Chiron heal just by being her true authentic self. So Charikko is often invoked in Buddhist principles of grounding – she represents permanent stillness, permanent peace, a transition of life to death, yes, but also a transition of consciousness.
so it’s possible we are about to experience an expansion of consciousness, integrating new information from far away galaxies into our human bodies, one of the biggest evolutionary leaps we could make.
Maybe there is an opportunity for massive healings? One important thing to figure out before the energy gets even stronger is what is your truth? What is a fuck yes and what is hell no?
During this time, you may want to call upon Charikko for guidance and support. To allow her to help you connect with yourself in a way that you remember – your worth, your lovability, your joy, strength. And to let anything not of love fall away.
Mars and Uranus partnered together during this time suggests we could experience some kind of upgrade to our body – Taurus rules the body and also the Earth; so this could be a physical body upgrade or the Earth could be upgrading. I’m not the only one who noticed this but lately it seems like the birds are singing louder, the sun and the moon seem brighter and bigger, the sky seems bluer, the trees seem more alive, like they dance in the wind and are communicating through the air – nature feels more alive, more colorful, stronger. And we too are nature.
Speaking of nature – earthquakes are highly likely at this time. Uranus is the planet of earthquakes and Mars-Uranus conjunctions are the classic signature of earthquakes and volcanic activity.
Sedna, the Dwarf Planet is at 29 degrees of Taurus, the last degree, the anaretic degree, usually expresses itself in an extreme way.Given that Taurus is fixed earth, disruptions and volatility like earthquakes are possible.
The North Node will be activated during this triple conjunction. The North Node is all about our collective new path, our fated path.The Nodes tell us a story of where we’ve been and what we know (South) versus where we’re moving toward karmically and need to do in order to achieve personal growth (North). The north node then is our collective destiny.
The Nodes moved into Taurus and Scorpio in January of this year, and for about 18 months prior, they were in Gemini and Sagittarius. While they’re in Taurus and Scorpio, until July 2023, we’re all being challenged to think about how we want to show up for ourselves, foster our self-worth, and be more self-sufficient but the path we’re taking to get to these realizations is not smooth or linear because Uranus is all about quantum jumps
Uranus’s future-oriented energy combined with the North Node could help us identify what you need to do to get where you’re meant to be, but it may unfold in a truly shocking and spiritual moment. You could be compelled to re-envision what you find comfort and pleasure in and redefine what brings you a sense of security.
And remember, because Uranus is the ruler of Aquarius, a humanitarian air sign that’s deeply community-oriented, this transit could lead to exciting realizations about how you want to show up for others and tap into your inner strength to make the world cozier for others in some way.
You may experience some kind of grand epiphany on July 31 or Aug 1 when this conjunction is exact, but because Saturn, the planet of boundaries and restrictions, in fellow fixed sign Aquarius will be squaring off against the whole group in Taurus, you may have to put your nose to the grindstone before you can truly see the fruits of your labor.
So again, use your own discernment, do what feels right to you, and get clear on what is important to you because this energy is not exactly stable. But if you are determined and clear about something like a baby learning to walk, when you fall down, you’ll be more motivated to get up and try again because you know where you’re going. You know your purpose.
Some helpful aspects of note:
Venus will be in Cancer and is forming a friendly sextile to the rare pairing of Uranus and the North Node. This aspect can urge you to own your most unusual, imaginative thinking — especially around your closest bonds, perception of beauty, and money. And the more open you can be to the tide turning, the more magical — and fulfilling — this moment is sure to be.
Mercury will also trine Chiron, possibly opening up a time to heal our wounds – especially through words.
I want to flag for you that the energy is affecting certain geographies more than others – countries with their midheaven being activated, that’s your public image, includes western south america, eastern mexico, cuba, the eastern US seaboard, as the energy is skimming DC itself
There’s also a line running through China, Indonesia, and Thailand, so we could see one or more of these governments impacted and/or in the news
There could be medical advances – like shocking medical advances at this time as well given Taurus rules the body and Uranus is about quantum galactic upgrades. And there could also be geographical discoveries – maybe a new continent? Or something – maybe some news coming out of Antartica?
So look at your natal chart – figure out which house is activated by 18 degrees of Taurus, where do you have 17-19 degrees of taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius? Which houses are activated?
