Cancer Summer Solstice | June 20, 2024

Let’s chat about the Summer Solstice happening on June 20th 2024. The exact timing of the solstice is around 2:07 p.m. Pacific time.

However I do want to flag that the solstice is the marking of the longest day of the year in terms of sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s when the sun reaches its most Northern point in the sky. So this is not necessarily an astrological or energetic event where it’s marked by a specific time stamp, however it is at that time that the sun is moving into the sign of Cancer.

For those astrology nerds like myself, you may have noticed there are four significant astrological events every year in which we celebrate a change in season when the sun moves into one of the four Cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn.

The Aries Equinox represents the transition from Winter into Spring: It’s time to come out of our slumber, our rest, and start working on our goals.
The Cancer summer solstice represents the beginning of Summer and represents our peak energy. It’s when we have the most momentum, top of the mountain, filled with light.
The Libra fall equinox represents moving into Fall. We are energetically beginning to slow down. We’re expressing gratitude for our blessings.
The Capricorn Winter solstice represents Winter. Energetically it’s a time of darkness, rest.

This particular Cancer summer solstice is energetically a little bit different than it has been in past years because energetically we are shining a light on things that have been going on that may not have been in our purview. It’s as if we are turning the lights on in a dark basement closet, and we are now noticing anything and everything that is present.

When the sun moves into cancer at 0° 0 minutes of Cancer and we mark the summer solstice moment, the moon will actually be in Sagittarius it will be at 15 degrees of Sagittarius.

Adding to the power of the Cancer Summer Solstice is the fact that the next day we have the first of two back-to-back Capricorn Full Moons. I will have a separate post about but what you need to know about the Capricorn Full Moon is that that full moon is happening at one degree of Capricorn

As the Moon travels into Capricorn for the Full Moon on the 21st, the next day, the Moon will activate the 29th degree of Sagittarius.

The 29th degree is a very powerful degree because it’s the last degree of that particular zodiac energy. Each zodiac house goes from 0 to 29° degrees, and each degree is tied to a specific zodiac energy or representative of a zodiac energy.

The 29th degree is potent and powerful because it is the last experience in that zodiac energy before it moves into a different zodiac house. The 29th degree can be incredibly empowering, a mastered energy if you will, or it can also be a last chance to learn a lesson or to repeat some sort of change to help us navigate our way home to ourselves.

On the day of the Summer Solstice the energy will be potent to both release behaviors, patterns, blocks that are keeping us from living the life we truly desire, as well as calling that life in, manifesting it into our reality, co-creating with the universe.

I align with the rays of the Sun that pour unto my cup overflowing.

The abundance of warmth and light, illuminating my shadows within.

I call upon the beauty of these shadows, allowing them to be seen in the golden light of the Sun.
