Thanksgiving is less than two-weeks away which means we have officially reached the Winter Holiday Season of 2021.
While most of the focus each holiday season is on gathering together with family and friends, for survivors of familial narcissistic abuse, as well as survivors of other types of dysfunctional families including addiction and mental health issues, the winter holiday season can be an incredibly difficult time to navigate because there are families everywhere. You can’t escape it.
There’s movies about family on TV, everyone you probably know whether that be friends, colleagues, acquaintances, most people are talking about their holiday plans with family and other loved ones – even the radio is jammed with family-feel good tunes. And when the inevitable question pops up of what are your holiday plans, those of us who are estranged may find ourselves stumbling over our answer.
Although nearly 1 in 4 adults is estranged from at least one member of their family of origin, estrangement, going no contact, is still highly misunderstood. For adult children of narcissistic parents, those of us who have narcissistic siblings and enabling parents, it can be difficult to adjust to a new way of experiencing and celebrating the holidays. I know I personally struggled, until that is, I came up with a plan.
Join me on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, for a group workshop for tips on how to survive and thrive this winter holiday season.
