The Gemini Full Moon is coming up on December 7 or 8 depending on where you are in the world, Dec. 7, 2022 in California, at 8:07 PM Pacific Time. During the Full Moon, the Moon will be at 16 degrees, 1 minute of Gemini.
Gemini is the Intellectual of the Zodiac. And the natural ruler of the third house of the zodiac which is all about the mind: online business, writing, speaking, teaching, mental energy, general business. But it also covers our local life, our siblings, relatives like cousins, friends who live nearby, and short distance travel.
A mutable air sign, Gemini energy is curious, quick-witted, and perpetually pumped to connect with others on just about anything. Thanks to its ruler, Mercury, the planet of communication, Gemini’s energy is associated with a nonstop super-social vibe and eagerness to gather information. But it’s not always about other people with Gemini energy. Represented by the symbol of the twins, Gemini energy is also about mirroring back to us, reflecting back our true nature. That can be our shadow side, our higher self, reparenting, self love, healing our core wounds.
Gemini is a yang energy, an air sign, meaning it’s more about logic, chatter, talking, communication. Gemini’s get a reputation for being quick minded, talkative, being in their head, thinking logically not with emotions as much as a water sign would.
Air energy is very logical, ethereal but given Gemini is also a mutable sign, it means the energy can be unfocused, that’s a shadow side because Gemini is always learning, adapting, to a point where we become indecisive by all of the options presented and available before us.
Gemini can adapt to its surroundings with ease, so it’s really common for those with strong Gemini placements to have a very active internal world, a very powerful and vivid imagination. These people tend to put more importance on being able to be intellectually stimulated by others because their internal world is so active and colorful they need to be around others who can keep up with that energy and engage in deep, intimate, conversations.
At the time of the Gemini Full Moon, the moon will be at 16 degrees. 16 degrees is ruled by Cancer, one of the more emotional, feminine, water signs, so I think that’s a hint that this is going to be an emotionally charged if not emotionally challenging full moons.
Keep in mind that whenever we have a full moon it’s often emotionally charged because it’s a time of completion, endings, and also new beginnings, which is why a full moon is generally a time for rest, contemplation of where we are now and where we want to go.
Adding to the challenges of the Full Moon, we have Mars at 16 degrees of Gemini conjunct the moon also at 16 degrees Gemini, indicating that this period of time around the Gemini Full Moon, three days before and after, may be a time when we find others perceive us to be more aggressive in terms of our words and actions, and we may feel similarly about other people.
So this may be a great time to spend time meditating alone, to knock out some solo tasks, workouts, journaling, whatever you’ve been meaning to do for yourself, this would probably be a good time to do those solo tasks.
We may also find more accidents on the roadways as there’s more road rage and aggressive driving, we may also experience communication glitches, almost similar to a mercury retrograde, because Mars is retrograde currently in Gemini, a sign ruled by Mercury. So there may be a sense that the energy is not operating at its peak embodied form.
We are not yet technically in a mercury retrograde pre-phase, but one will start shortly after the Gemini Full Moon. On Dec. 11, 2022 we will enter a mercury retrograde pre-phase, with the mercury retrograde officially beginning on Dec. 29, 2022, and ending Jan. 17, 2023. The post-phase should wrap up in February 2023.
So technically when we enter the 2023 calendar year on January 1, we will be in both a Mars retrograde and a Mercury retrograde. When it comes to astrology there are 6 planets known as the personal planets you want to pay attention to because these are the planetary energies that will shake up your life on a more personal level. The 6 personal planets are your rising sign, your sun sign, moon sign, mercury, venus and mars.
So if you look at these retrogrades at the start of the year, two of the 6 personal planets will be in retrograde, so this is not going to be the time where you want to start something new like a new years resolution because your ability to take action, your ability to communicate, to motivate yourself, the energy is not operating at its full potential. So by all means if you want to start a new year’s resolution on january 1, go for it, I just want you to know it may feel like trying to get on a carousel while it’s moving.
Perhaps not impossible, but rather challenging, and you have to kind of ask, is it worth it to rush and possibly get injured when I can just wait a bit and the ride will stop and I can get on safely.
Keep in mind a retrograde is a time when we have an opportunity to review, redo, rethink, rewrite a specific energy. And with Mars retrograde in Gemini, we are being invited to rethink how we communicate, our word choices, how we share our thoughts and ideas.
Look at what was going on in your life between August 20 and October 30, 2022. Where was your focus? Where focus goes, energy flows and Mars retrograde may be giving you a taste now of where your focus was when Mars was direct in Gemini.
Also look back at what was going on in your life 3 days before and after the Gemini New Moon on May 30, 2022, that will likely give you the best indication of what to expect to manifest in your life, or at least to see the sprouts of the seeds you planted.
The Mars Retrograde is a time of reflection, specifically a reflection on your actions. Why are you making the choices you’re making? Why are you choosing specific words?
In short, we’re being gifted an opportunity to Refine our Gemini qualities – words, thoughts, ideas, actions, information sharing; how we communicate, how we listen, our adaptability, socialization,
find where Mars is in your chart. That’s going to give you an idea of how you fight, what you fight for, where your internal battles live, your sexuality.
Think about what you’ve been focusing on, what kind of challenges, battles, new projects, new ways of doing have you discovered between August 20 and October 30, 2022?
Similar themes may come up during this Full Moon because like I said, Mars is retrograde in Gemini and during the Full Moon, the moon and Mars will both be conjunct at 16 degrees of Gemini. So we are clearly going back over something, possibly in our internal, emotional world.
Also look at which house does Gemini rule for you? It may also give you a hint or insight at what kind of self reflection your soul is craving at this time, what kinds of self reflective lessons would benefit your greatest good?
During the time of the Gemini Full Moon, the sun will be at 16 degrees of Sagittarius, Venus will be at 27 degrees of Sagittarius, Mercury will be at 1 degree of Capricorn
Jupiter is at 29 degrees of Pisces, Pluto is at 26 degrees of Capricorn.
There are roughly 15 major aspects during this Gemini Full Moon. And a majority of them happen to be squares, which is the most challenging aspect in astrology. Planets at play and affected by the square include Saturn and Uranus, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Neptune.
I’m not going to go over Saturn and Uranus squaring and what that means because I’ve done that I think in just about every astrological update this year. But just know that there’s another square here, not as close as the square in October, but that push pull between the old and the new is still active, and the other planets are adding additional flavors surrounding these energy tensions.
Freedom, truth, being the best version of yourself, connecting with spiritual realms, galactic energies. That’s what this full moon is all about.

If you are a sun or rising Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces or Virgo, you are likely to feel the effects of this Full Moon the most, especially if you have any aspects or angles between 16-20 degrees of mutable signs, so Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces or Virgo.
