New Moon in Libra | Oct. 2025

On October 21 we have a New Moon in Libra at 5:24 a.m. Pacific Time (adjust for your local zone). The Moon will be at 28°21′ Libra — a late-degree lunation that feels poised to close a chapter and seed a new one.

New Moons are portals for intention-setting. They invite us to plant seeds — energetic or literal — for what we want to call into our lives.

This Libra New Moon is one of the last New Moons of 2025 (we also have a Scorpio and Sagittarius New Moon before year’s end). We won’t see a Capricorn New Moon until early 2026, so now is prime time to lay groundwork for how you want to show up and what you want to experience next year.

This lunation arrives on the eve of the Sun’s ingress into Scorpio. We’ll explore Scorpio energy more during the Scorpio New Moon, but it’s worth noting that we’re entering a window where the veil between worlds thins — the same energetic territory that leads into Samhain (traditionally observed on October 31).

Samhain marks a liminal halfway point between the Libra fall equinox and the Capricorn winter solstice: a potent moment to sow seeds in the dark for springtime bloom. If you garden, you already know that some things are planted in fall to flower in spring — this is that kind of timing for your inner life.

Although this New Moon falls about ten days before Samhain, there is a two-week window leading up to it when that liminal energy is active. Given how ripe the field is, I recommend using the Libra New Moon not only to set clear, specific intentions but also to think long-term: where do you want to be in 2026, and what foundations will support that vision?

This New Moon is directly connected to the Libra Full Moon on April 1, 2026 — so be mindful: where your focus goes, energy flows. You are literally planting seeds for your future.

Practical step: look at your natal chart and find the house Libra rules for you personally. (If you’re not Aries rising, Libra will rule a different house than Libra’s natural seventh-house placement.)

Once you know which house Libra governs in your chart, reflect on these questions:

• How do I want to grow in the area of life ruled by Libra?
• What do I want more of here? How do I want to show up?
• What needs to be released so I have space for new growth?

Use this New Moon to plant with intention, tend your inner garden, and choose what you want to nurture into bloom.

Libra Archetype: The Harmonizer of the Zodiac

Libra is a cardinal air sign — the archetype of balance, beauty, and connection. Where Aries is focused on the self — me, me, me — Libra is focused on we. This is the energy of partnership, collaboration, and harmony. Libra loves people and is gifted at building genuine relationships and finding common ground.

As a cardinal sign, Libra’s energy is initiating, pioneering, and creative. Cardinal signs begin new cycles, and we can see this clearly each year when the Sun enters Libra and ushers in a new season — the transition from summer to autumn. Libra energy inspires us to start something fresh, especially in the realms of relationships, beauty, and social dynamics.

As an air sign, Libra carries a masculine, active energy. It’s about thinking, speaking, and doing — not necessarily about receiving. Air signs live in the realm of ideas, and Libra’s quick mind is curious, charming, and conversational. This is energy that seeks fairness and understanding, that values logic and reason.

But every archetype has a shadow. Libra’s shadow emerges when the search for harmony turns into self-abandonment. In trying to see every perspective, Libra can lose sight of its own truth. The desire to please or keep the peace can tip the scales out of balance, leaving one’s own needs unmet.

Like its symbol, the scales of justice, Libra is always seeking equilibrium — but sometimes the path to true balance begins by reclaiming your own center first.

How to Work with This Energy Intentionally

  1. Identify your Libra-ruled house using your rising sign. Example:
    • Aquarius Rising → Libra rules your 9th house: long-distance travel, blessings, higher education, legal matters, spirituality
    • Leo Rising → Libra rules your 3rd house: business, local life, siblings, cousins, neighbors, local friends, short-distance travel, writing, speaking, teaching, social media
    • Scorpio Rising → Libra rules your 12th house: spirituality, loss, isolation and isolated places, dream world, psychic capabilities and insights, foreign countries
  2. Set New Moon intentions through this lens:
    • What area of life is illuminated by Libra?
    • What do I want to grow, shift, or expand here?
    • Six months from now, what would I love to feel or experience?

Write, speak, or visualize your intentions. They will echo into the Libra Full Moon on April 1, 2026.

What does the Libra New Moon have in store for us collectively?

As with every New Moon, the Sun and Moon join together to illuminate our inner emotional world. This lunation offers moments of clarity, emotional insight, and inspiration — often guiding us to begin something new or explore a deeper layer of ourselves.

With the Sun in Libra, however, things feel a bit different. The Sun is considered to be in detriment here, because Libra is opposite Leo — the Sun’s natural home. Think of it this way: the Sun in Leo loves to shine as the star of the show, but in Libra, that same energy is being asked to share the spotlight, to seek balance and partnership. The Sun resists that at first — “Why are you trying to make me share my light?” — yet the Moon’s presence softens this resistance.

Together, the Sun and Moon in Libra have us seeking safety and belonging within our relationships, not only romantic ones but also friendships and social circles. This energy makes us less tolerant of rudeness or manipulation and draws us toward sincerity, kindness, honesty, and beauty — both in people and in our environments.

Venus, ruler of Libra, is also in Libra at this New Moon — a blessing that enhances our ability to create harmony rather than conflict. This is a beautiful time to express your truth or assert yourself in relationships with grace and long-term benefit. Venus offers us diplomacy and the gift of balancing self-respect with empathy for others. Romance, beauty, and art are emphasized — not only love for others but love for life, creativity, and all that inspires you.

Mercury in Scorpio deepens our perception. This placement allows for profound psychological insight, revealing what’s hidden beneath the surface. We’re searching for truth, emotional safety, and values that truly align with our soul. When we find people who mirror that truth or share wisdom that helps us grow, we feel more grounded and secure.

Mars, also in Scorpio, amplifies this drive for emotional honesty. It gives us the momentum and courage to pursue our desires and to confront uncomfortable truths. In relationships, this can make us magnetic and powerful — but we must be mindful not to control or intimidate others. Real empowerment comes from using our strength with integrity.

The Sun and Moon Square Jupiter and Pluto

During the Libra New Moon, the Sun and Moon form a square to Jupiter. This brings ambition and optimism but also the temptation to chase instant gratification or external validation. We may find ourselves seeking comfort through others or through material pleasures, yet this energy teaches us that true fulfillment comes from within. The challenge here is to nurture self-love, gratitude, and acceptance even when external circumstances feel uncertain.

The Sun and Moon also square Pluto, intensifying emotional power struggles and control dynamics. We might feel compelled to assert our needs or push for change — sometimes forcefully. But genuine love cannot be coerced; it must be chosen freely. This aspect invites emotional growth through surrender, trust, and vulnerability. It’s not easy work, but it’s transformative. Libra energy reminds us to release what we cannot control and refocus on what we can — especially how we show up daily.

Your daily routines, habits, and hobbies will play a key role in processing this energy. Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of art and aesthetics, so creative outlets — painting, dancing, music, pottery, even coloring — can help you express your emotions authentically. Let it all flow: the beauty, the pain, the truth.

A reflective question for this lunation might be:
“Am I buying or doing this because I need it — or because I’m trying to fill an emotional void?”

Mercury Conjunct Mars: Trine Jupiter and Saturn

Mercury conjunct Mars enhances mental clarity, courage, and decisiveness. Communication becomes passionate, persuasive, and insightful. With supportive trines to Jupiter and Saturn, our words carry wisdom and emotional grounding. We’re able to think quickly, express truth with confidence, and explore deep psychological or spiritual topics with maturity. The shadow side of this transit could involve verbal sparring or manipulation, but when grounded, this aspect inspires meaningful conversations that foster understanding and connection.

Mars Trine Jupiter and Saturn

Mars trine Jupiter and Saturn offers stamina and resilience — a steady, optimistic energy that helps us stay committed to long-term goals even without immediate rewards. It’s a cosmic reminder that consistency builds momentum. Keep going, even when no one is clapping.

Jupiter Trine Saturn and Neptune — Opposing Pluto

Jupiter’s trines to Saturn and Neptune gift us creativity, vision, and emotional responsibility. We feel inspired to grow in ways that serve both our dreams and our duties. Yet Jupiter’s opposition to Pluto adds intensity: we’re called to question our values and the systems we’ve accepted as truth.

When your inner truth clashes with outer authority, it can feel destabilizing — you might second-guess your reality or question your intuition. But if that truth continues to burn within you, trust it. This is your invitation to evolve, to lead with authenticity, and to inspire others by living your truth courageously.
