From August 20, 2022 until March 25, 2023, Mars will be in Gemini.
This is a big deal in the astrological world because Mars normally hangs out in a particular sign for about a two month period of time. But this time, Mars will be in Gemini for roughly 8 months.
The reason that Mars will be in Gemini for so long is because Mars will retrograde in Gemini from October 30, 2022 through January 12, 2023.
Before we dive deeper into the Mars in Gemini transit and what this means for you I want to call your attention to some other astrological events happening in the next few weeks because like I’ve mentioned previously, the end of 2022 is going to be HOT, turbulent, busy, and part of that is because of the energy we’re about to enter into. So remember this is the time to focus on gratitude, to focus on joy, peace, love, and to really slow down and think before speaking, acting or posting.
Energy Events I want to Flag for you:
Mercury Retrograde
On August 20,2022, the same day Mars enters Gemini, we’re going to begin the Mercury retrograde pre-phase, meaning the effects of Mercury retrograde are being felt for those who are a little more sensitive to Mercury.
I know for myself I was born during a Mercury retrograde and around the pre-phase and post-phase of Mercury retrograde is when I tend to see communication issues pop up the most in my life.
Mercury retrograde pre-phase begins August 20,2022. The Mercury retrograde itself will begin on September 9, 2022 and will complete on Oct. 2, 2022, with the post-phase wrapping up on Oct. 20, 2022.
Eclipse Season
And then pretty much immediately following the end of Mercury retrograde we will enter eclipse season with a Solar Eclipse Illuminated New Moon in Taurus on Oct. 25, 2022. We’ll talk more about eclipse season and what that will look like when we get a little closer, but essentially I want you to keep in mind that two major planets at play this year are Saturn and Uranus.
Saturn & Uranus
Saturn is about the past; rules and regulations; centralization of policy; about top-down rules and regulations. Whereas Uranus is about the future, freedom, not obeying the rules, grassroots, bottom up, lifting up, communal focus; individual rights and freedoms vs power of the state.
Uranus has been highlighted all throughout 2022 as it’s in Taurus with the North Node, our collective communal destiny. In fact, Uranus and the North Node were conjunct along with Mars in Taurus on July 31/Aug.1 when we had the Triple Conjunction. Although Uranus has moved on from 18 degrees Taurus where the North Node is, Uranus will remain operationally conjunct to the North Node in Taurus through Feb. / March 2023.
So essentially what this means is we are being given an opportunity to see which areas of our life we have outgrown by moving forward in jumps, quantum leaps. So because the north node is in Taurus as well conjunct Uranus, this growth is not just about the individual; it’s quantum leaps in terms of communal growth surrounding Taurean topics of food, the body, the Earth, our senses, including listening, singing, money, the economy, and luxury items.
Taurus remember is a fixed sign so it doesn’t like change. But these changes that are coming that we’re seeing -especially for those with fixed signs for your sun and/or rising – Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius, these are changes we likely knew on some level needed to happen, even if we’re kicking and screaming the entire time.
Mars in Gemini –
Mars will be in Gemini from Aug. 20, 2022 – until March 25, 2023
As I said before, Mars is normally in one particular sign for two months; but because Mars is going retrograde in Gemini from Oct. 30, through Jan. 12, 2023, Mars will actually be in Gemini for 8 months.
So let’s talk about Gemini and Mars for a minute and what these energies represent individually before we talk about what happens when these energies combine.
Let’s start with Mars.
Mars is the planet of war. Mars is the natal ruler of Aries and Scorpio so Mars reveals where our individuality and power are detected. And this power is not inherently bad or selfish. Sometimes it takes a warrior spirit, warrior energy to fight and defend the ones you love or fight for what matters come hell or high water.
In our natal chart Mars signals where we are at war internally and how we take action. It’s our sexuality. Our Mars energy is how our masculine side operates. For females or those who identify as female, mars in our natal chart represents what we like in a male partner.
So find which house and which sign do you have Mars.
And then we have Gemini.
Gemini is an air sign, it’s not very focused energy because it’s split in two directions, which is why the symbol for the sign of Gemini is twins. It’s quick-minded energy, it’s talkative, Gemini is the intellectual of the Zodiac after all, but it’s indecisive. Gemini is like a mirror, reflecting back our nature. The energy of Gemini then is all about learning, flexibility, adaptability, being able to pivot and change.
Mars in Gemini
When Mars enters Gemini, our brains are ignited with passion and drive. Mars rules action and motivation, Gemini rules the mind. So this is a great time to brainstorm and come up with brilliant ideas and fresh new ways of doing things.
Mars’ aggression is tempered in Gemini allowing us clarity on what is most important to us, where we most want to focus our energy. But caution: Gemini is going to make it really difficult to focus on one thing. If we are able to narrow down our focus, that Mars energy is going to help us communicate in a courageous manner and really fight for our beliefs, for love, for peace in an effective, logical way. Perhaps a way we haven’t thought of yet.
Mars in Gemini is a beautiful time to explore the vast range of talents, options and possibilities that exist. We’re likely going to feel like every path, every decision we take has pros and cons, which may lead to indecision, ambiguity, analysis paralysis. For example, You may find yourself scrolling on Netflix for an hour, all excited to watch a movie, but decide after an hour of searching that you would rather go for a hike. That’s Mars in Gemini.
Given that Gemini rules our direct experiences like people, stimuli, social noise around us, Gemini energy is not known for wisdom or a bird’s eye perspective. So when Mars, the ego planet, enters Gemini, we may mistake our ideas for beliefs that are worth fighting for, even if our idea or mistaken belief has no basis in reality. Additionally we may struggle to focus on one thing; our mind may change overnight in a matter of days about something we were sure about; again that is Mars in Gemini.
And this is going to be interesting given that it’s the US pluto return year;
I know some astrologers in the UK are closely watching the US midterm elections this November because the energy could make it so that political leaders and social media influencers develop this idea that they are martyrs with ideas worth fighting for, even if the rest of us view their idea as ignorant and out of teach with reality.
Who knows, maybe we’ll all have a big laugh.
So on the one hand, there’s a word of warning with this energy because there is so much uncertainty. On the other hand, this is the best time to learn new things, dip your toes in new waters, and experience something you perhaps wouldn’t necessarily gravitate toward normally. because Gemini is giving Mars access to more talents than ever. So use this time to study, train, and take in new inspiration especially before Mars goes retrograde at the end of October.
And as I mentioned, Gemini adapts through communication; so this is a really good time to play around with songwriting, creative writing, and direct dialogue with others. Keep in mind that Gemini needs something to react to or channel so find a group of people – online or in person who can stimulate your mind, inspire you, encourage you to keep going; a group you can bounce ideas around with, share new ideas and perspectives.
On a spiritual level when Mars is in Gemini it’s an ideal time to get in contact with your spirit guides, ancestors, Akashic records, and higher powers, as well as to clear your body, mind and soul of energy that is not yours, energy no longer supporting your highest self, to best receive these messages.
During these 8 months or so, you may feel a sense of restlessness; like you’re moving but not really making any progress. But at the end of this transit, you may find that you actually did complete something like write and publish a poetry book or something.
This is your time to expand your creative imagination skills, even if you don’t know how they’ll be put to use. Dream big. Don’t worry about how it will all unfold, just focus on your best outcome, best case scenario or something better.
So that’s the overall Mars in Gemini energy.
But we also have Mars going retrograde in Gemini from October 30, 2022 through January 12, 2023, Mars will station retrograde in Gemini.
The Mars Retrograde is a time of reflection, specifically a reflection on your actions. Why are you making the choices you’re making? Why are you choosing specific words?
In short, we’re being gifted an opportunity to Refine our Gemini qualities – words, thoughts, ideas, actions, information sharing; how we communicate, how we listen, our adaptability, socialization,
A word of caution: when Mars goes retrograde, this will not be a time of consistent or dependable leadership; I think that’s a lesson we’ve been learning collectively these last few years; that there is no big figure coming to save us; we all must save our selves.
On a personal level, be wary of any big plans, grand identity signifiers, or declarations of purpose. Any lightning strikes of clarity or direction should be given a few days to integrate; you may find yourself losing steam, or doubling back on yourself, no matter how sure you were just a few days ago.
So in short, Mars retrogrades are not times for output, but for observation, review, and downloading
So find where Mars is in your chart. That’s going to give you an idea of how you fight, what you fight for, where your internal battles live, your sexuality, and then look for where Gemini is in your chart. Which house does it rule? Unless you are an Aries rising, Gemini will rule a different house than the natal third house, so look and see what you have going on in your third house as well. That may give you some kind of unique Gemini flavoring.
Natal Mars in Gemini
Because it is possible to be born with Mars in Gemini natally, I wanted to share what that may look like in terms of a personality.
Mars in Gemini Traits:
- Flexible
- Eager
- Open-minded
- Fun
- Free
- Strategic
- Excitable
- Inquisitive
- Lively
Mars in Gemini natives are very adaptable, often thriving on change. They often take up many projects at once, spreading themselves thin at times. Sustained interest is not especially common, which is why most natives will benefit from attempting to focus their energies on one or a few projects rather than scattering their energy across several projects. However, their versatility and disdain for routine generally means Mars-in-Gemini natives busy people by default.
Specifically, Mars in Gemini natives channel their energy through their hands. Gemini rules the hands; and these people often express energy through musical instruments and even video games. Many are attracted to puzzles and games as diversions as well.
Remember, it is safe to go slow. It is safe to take a step back. It is safe to change your mind. It is safe to change.
