At the time of the New Moon, The Moon and Sun will both be at 9 degrees and 35 minutes of Scorpio.
If you have natal planets between 5-15 degrees of Fixed Signs: Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius, you are likely to feel the impact of this Scorpio New Moon the most, especially if you have natal planets at 9 degrees.

During the time of the New Moon, the Moon and Sun will be conjunct at 9 degrees of Scorpio.
I find this interesting because the Ninth degree is ruled by Sagittarius and is an energy that is associated with higher education, learning, foreign travel, and having a plan. Sagittarius remember is represented symbolically by an archer and having a plan is necessary when aiming your arrow as an archer. And this being a New Moon, we are being asked to set an intention, essentially come up with a plan for the area of our life ruled by Scorpio, which we should see the fruits of our labor, or at least the beginning sprouts when we experience the Scorpio Full Moon next May, May 12, 2025, to be exact.
Given Scorpio is a water sign and water is so connected to our emotions, this Scorpio New Moon may be the beginning of a new internal change. Possibly a shift in how we harness our emotional power. Perhaps we channel our anger or rage at the time of this New Moon and we harness that energy to prove someone wrong. Or perhaps it’s an energy that is utilizing the private nature of Scorpio energy to keep this fresh start, this new chapter close to our chest, a secret I dare say, until a later time.
It’s also the first of five New Moons in a row which will all be at 9 degrees. So we are definitely hammering some kind of new beginning, possibly associated with higher education, foreign travel or foreign lands, or perhaps the energy of Jupiter, the great benefic, and ruling planet of Sagittarius, is bringing us luck and expanding or amplifying the energy of new beginnings especially after so many of us experienced closure around the Aries Full Moon in October 2024.
During the time of the Scorpio New Moon, the Sun and Moon will be in Scorpio conjunct at 9 degrees. We’re feeling more energized to be honest with ourselves about who we are and what we want in this world. Scorpio’s phoenix energy comes into play here and allows us to change and shed our skin.
However it’s important to note that not everyone is going to understand this change, our need to do something different, and they may perceive our transformation as being self-centered or uncharacteristic of you. In short, you may not feel supported by those you expect to support you during this transitional time.
Mercury is also in Scorpio at 28 degrees. Keep in mind that Scorpio is an energy that is like a frozen river. On the surface everything looks solid, calm, stoic, but under the surface, there is a current, a flood, a flow of emotions. Mercury in Scorpio is empowering our ability to communicate when it comes to our emotions. But it’s also giving us a bit of a sharp tongue here.
We may feel self-defense and throw out verbal jabs which may make reconciliation difficult later on. If you natally have your Mercury in Scorpio this doesn’t mean you have a harsh way of communicating, it’s possible that you have knowledge or perhaps a career in professions like psychology, detectives, researchers, or even politicians.
Venus in Sagittarius is opening up our minds to view love as an adventure. We’re perhaps literally going on an adventure for love and traveling abroad or this can be more figurative. We’re changing and adapting our view of what love is. Maybe we see long-term love now as an adventure of ups and downs. Maybe we realize we need to shake up the kind of person we’re in a relationship with because a predictable partner is not what we want after all.
Mars-Pluto Opposing One Another
Mars is in Cancer at 29 degrees. Mars is actually in detriment in Cancer, meaning it does not like to be there and it makes sense because the energy doesn’t match. Mars is a masculine, aggressive, war, militaristic energy, whereas Cancer is a feminine, emotional, homebody energy.
When a planet is at the 29th degree, there is a lot of pent up, built up energy, and it’s as if a lesson is being hammered, or like karma is correcting the balance of something. It’s big, challenging energy.
Pluto is in Capricorn for the last few weeks in our lifetimes before it moves into Aquarius later in November, also at 29th degree. I’ve talked about this before, Pluto in Capricorn is highlighting the corruption, the shadow side of Capricorn energies, including top-down power structures like governments, financial institutions, and corporations. And at the time of the Scorpio New Moon
Pluto will be opposing Mars. And this is not a one and done thing either.
Mars and Pluto will continue to oppose each other pretty much throughout the winter. This energy first sparked in the middle of October and will continue to clash through January 2025.
The energy of Mars-Pluto transits is intense, dangerous energy. It’s life or death survival energy. On a collective level, this could indicate some tension between countries could explode quite literally. And it’s possible that this eruption could be the beginning of the end of this energy, but that doesn’t mean that this survival energy will feel any less threatening.
If you have any natal planets around the last three degrees of Cardinal signs, Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn, you may feel this Mars Pluto opposition personally as well. Same goes for those who have natal planets around 0 – 6 degrees of Fixed signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
It can look like life or death medical events for you or a loved one. Someone can die, you can have a near death experience. You can lose your job and struggle with the survival stress of watching your bank account get lower and lower as you are looking for work.
Ultimately you may experience some kind of crisis. It may hit you directly or it could impact someone around you like a family member, a friend, or even a colleague or acquaintance.
Given that Mars and Pluto both rule Scorpio and are opposing each other during the Scorpio New Moon, and this energy will continue into January 2025, I think it’s indicative that things could get really ugly for the rest of the year and we may have to learn to face challenges and tests, or even accept the things we cannot change or control.
This may be a challenging time in which we are forced to surrender and turn to our mindset, our ability to dream, in order to cope. Because this energy is influencing our communication too, we may fight and push back against those that we are not expecting to not be our allies during this time.
Venus, Jupiter and Saturn are not really influencing the Mars-Pluto aspect, meaning the lessons being learned here seem to be deep and necessary for our greatest good. Again, this doesn’t mean that in the moment it is not challenging and we are not able to see a positive or silver lining, but this is where trusting the universe has your back may come in handy.
