On September 2, 2024, we have a New Moon in Virgo at 6:55 PM Pacific Time.
The Moon will be at 11 degrees and 03 minutes of Virgo.
Remember a New Moon is a time in which the Moon and Sun are conjunct in the same sign. Both the Moon and Sun are at 11 degrees of Virgo.
A new moon represents the very beginning of a cycle, it’s when we are planting seeds for what we want more of, what we want to cultivate, grow, invite into our life. Or also what we want to let go of so we can make room for something else.
During a new moon, the moon will have a particular flavoring or energy depending on what season we are in astrologically. And we can use that zodiac flavoring to help us create goals, ideas, to make progress on areas of our life that are most supported by that current energy.
On Sept. 2, 2024, we have a New Moon in the astrological sign of Virgo.
Virgo is the Purist of the Zodiac.
Virgo’s energy is the purist, the symbol for Virgo is that of a virgin because the energy of Virgo is clean, it’s devotional, it’s self love, it’s spirituality; it’s the high priestess in human form, making the body the temple.
Ruled by Mercury, Virgo is the natural ruler of the sixth house and the sixth house is all about the body, your service to the world, your day job, physical health, health and wellness, smaller animals like cats and dogs, plants, and enemies.
Virgo is an Earth sign, meaning it’s slow, sensual, grounding, feminine energy; it’s about balance, fairness, loving people and building solid relationships; but unlike the other Earth signs Taurus and Capricorn, Virgo is mutable energy meaning it’s flexible, changeable, adaptable, it’s about learning, so a shadow side of Virgo’s energy is being indecisive;
Virgo’s Mutable Earth energy is about learning; making changes; changes you want to make and changes you didn’t even believe you could or were possible of changing
In a sense this new moon is asking: What in your life do you want to change? How can you best improvise these changes?
When we entered Virgo season, we entered the Virgo-Pisces energy axis. Not only do we have the Virgo New Moon, but we are entering Eclipse Season.
We have a Partial Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Pisces on Sept. 17, and we’re already swimming in that energy because remember eclipse season is when those BIG life moments tend to happen. Like suddenly someone is getting married, divorced, there can be pregnancy announcements, people getting job offers out of nowhere, moving across the country or internationally. It’s really those life-changing memorable moments that often happen during eclipse season.
Virgo is all about love in action and service to others. It’s the practical application of the spiritual energies of Pisces: bringing these dreamy, ethereal, creative miracles to fruition in our real world.
What do you want to set in motion?
The seeds we plant now at this Virgo New Moon will harvest during the Virgo Full Moon.
There are two full moons in Virgo in 2025: March 14 and April 13.
This means Virgo energy, specifically what we focus on during this New Moon, is likely to surface next Spring strongly.
When we have two back-to-back New Moons in the same sign, it’s usually a sign we are energetically being tapped on the shoulder and the cosmos are saying, you really need to be paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and actions right now.
And while this is a Virgo New Moon, I want to flag what some of the planets are up to because I don’t necessarily think Virgo is the star of this Virgo New Moon.
The day before the Virgo New Moon, Pluto, which has been retrograde since May 2024 will move to 29 degrees of Capricorn on September 1.
Pluto is the planet of deep transformation. It’s a ruler of Scorpio, so I like to think of Pluto as that spark that lights a fire and allows us to see all of the cobwebs and chaos that we have been avoiding or been unaware of. This is why Pluto can scare people, the energy of Pluto can be quite challenging. Who wants to see all of the shadow parts of themselves or their life, right?
But the beautiful part of Pluto’s transformation process is that it doesn’t just point out the cockroach in the corner, it’s this energy of the Phoenix. Of taking our pain and allowing it to transform us the way that a chrysalis transforms a caterpillar into a butterfly.
Is the process of turning into a butterfly easy and pain-free for the caterpillar? No it’s not. But there is an element of trust there, of surrender. And this is what Pluto is asking us to do now as it moves to the aneretic degree, the 29th degree of Capricorn.
When Pluto first moved into Capricorn in 2008, we saw a transformation in Capricorn type energies, namely top-down leadership governments, corporations, and institutions. We were made aware of their corruption. Of the shadow side to this kind of power dynamic. And when we have a planet at the 29th degree, the final degree of a sign, it’s when Pluto really gives us a good look at the shadow side, probably because Pluto’s quite slow at going around the zodiac. It has a 240 year transit orbit, so this is the last time Pluto will be in Capricorn during our lifetime.
As Pluto moves back into Aquarius until 2044 starting this November, we are going to likely see transformation related to Aquarian energies such as power to the people. What does this look like? Just a reminder that Pluto was in Aquarius when the Declaration of Independence was signed and the United States separated herself from the power of the British Monarchy.
