Kangen Water Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Self-Love

#034 Trauma Wounds, Opioids & Addictions, Oh My!

Aloha, Namaste, and welcome back to the Healing Laughter podcast. This is the show where we talk about all things related to self-love, manifestation, spirituality, the power of positive affirmations, healing water, astrology, and soul much more.

I’m your host Katie Utterback. I’m an ICF-certified spiritual life coach, a western tropical astrologer, breathwork practitioner, dog mom, and wannabe mermaid.

Today on the show we’re talking about the use of opioids and other medications like Xanax that are commonly prescribed to survivors of trauma as part of their trauma recovery. Well not the entirety of it, because that’s a huge topic, but I want to address if healing from trauma like narcissistic abuse is possible without medications that come from a pharmacy and require a prescription.

In short the answer is yes. We can heal from trauma without ever taking any kind of man-made medication because the truth is using opioids to treat mental health is like throwing blanket over your brain; even if you don’t develop an addiction your brain chemistry is shifting but the root of the pain, the trauma, is still there wreaking havoc.

#Trauma comes from a Greek word meaning raw wound. And just like a physical wound or physical trauma, emotional trauma causes rigidity and scar tissue in the body. What this means is that if we baby our emotional wounds, if we ignore our trauma, that scar tissue increasingly becomes rigid and stiff, it doesn’t move – so when someone hits it – we feel triggered, we feel weak, we feel like we’re no longer in control.

Pain originates in the brain, not the body.  the body keeps score. Pain is a disease. It’s real. And what’s even more interesting to me is that when someone confirms we are experiencing pain, when a therapist, a coach like myself or a doctor validates that you are experiencing pain, you are more likely to relax – even if that pain seemingly can not be found medically.

Isn’t that interesting? That your pain levels can reduce once someone validates that the pain you’re experiencing is real?!

For a while I believed that I needed some kind of drug like ayahuasca or kambo to help me fully eradicate trauma from my brain and my body. But as I’ve come to learn on my healing journey – without yet experiencing these medicinal treatments – is that no drugs are required to release trauma from the body.

We can heal using tools like astrology, numerology, and human design to help us understand and learn from our past wounds and navigate future challenges with a bit more self understanding, grace, and trust.

We can use #Kangen water to help our cells restore themselves to their natural default state, allowing our cellular structures to repair themselves and return to normal.

We can use breathwork and shadow work to release energy that is not ours or energy that no longer serves our higher purpose. Dance. Yoga. Meditation. Journaling. Positive Affirmations. Energy Healing. These are all healing modalities, tools that really do work when it comes to healing from trauma.

I say this because I’ve done it. I still do these things.

Every time I’ve been offered Xanax I turn it down. Every time I am offered an opioid I turn it down. Every time I’m offered any drug that can change my brain chemistry – other than water and weed and I guess caffeine – I turn it down.

And honestly, since I’ve started to more regularly incorporate open mouth breathwork, my desire to try ayahuasca and kambo is diminishing. I’ve been doing open mouth breathwork for almost five months now and I just last week had my first high just from breathing. It was fucking awesome, my body was tingling, and buzzing.
