Nutmeg Baths

Nutmeg baths are one of my favorite self-care rituals.

What’s great about a nutmeg bath is that you can do it day or night, it doesn’t matter when, the only thing that truly matters is your intention.

When I take a nutmeg bath, I view it as an opportunity to workout my mental strength, my mental resilience, and my self-love.

Nutmeg? Like the kitchen spice?

When I first started taking nutmeg baths, I was very cautious about who I talked about it with and how I even talked about it. You see, the original recipe I found for a nutmeg bath is from a Wiccan book of spells. I was raised Catholic, but I’ve always believed in magic. I’ve always believed that there’s a greater power, I just didn’t have the vocabulary I needed to explain how I felt.

I was curious to learn more, so I did. What I found is that I was late to the nutmeg bath party. Since the 1500’s, nutmeg has been widely used in good luck and health spells as it’s thought to provide money, health, and loyalty.

To create your own nutmeg bath you will need:

  • 6 tsp Nutmeg Powder
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 1 coffee filter or fill-able tea bag
  1. Place the nutmeg powder in the coffee filter or tea bag.
  2. Pour warm water over the coffee filter or let the tea bag soak until the water is cool.
  3. While you’re waiting for the nutmeg tea to finish brewing, start your bath.
  4. When you’re ready to get in, pour the nutmeg tea into the bathwater.
  5. Soak for at least 10 minutes in the bathtub.

Personalize It

For fun, you can always enhance your bath experience.

One way I like to do this is by listening to a 30 – 45-minute positive affirmations meditation video while I’m taking the nutmeg bath. I find the positive self-talk combined with the healing powers of the nutmeg tea helps me refocus on what I truly value and it makes staying in the bath a lot easier.

Another fun enhancement is to buy some candles and have them lit while you’re in the bath or to place real flowers in the water.

Remember though, you don’t have to do anything other than soak in the nutmeg tea for 10 minutes. If the candles, flowers, and affirmations are distracting to you, the cost is overwhelming, or you just don’t like being in the bath all that much. That’s perfectly ok.
